L. Pirandello

Agrigento

Chaos in the district, is the birthplace of Luigi Pirandello, playwright, poet and writer, Nobel Prize for Literature in 1934. The house is a reconstruction of rural late eighteenth century, was declared a national monument in 1949. The rooms are home to a vast collection of photos, reviews and honors, first editions of books with handwritten dedications, paintings dedicated to Luigi Pirandello, posters of his most famous works represented in theaters around the world.
Walking along a path through the countryside near the house you come to a centuries-old pine. In this big tree loved to stop and think Pirandello, paint, relax, and write to friends. And it is here that he wanted to be buried according to his last wishes fulfilled with the ceremony of transfer of the ashes of December 10, 1961.


It 's a simple burial. A memorial stone collected from the Cliff of Athena and enhanced by the sculptor Marino Mazzacurati hosts the urn containing the ashes of the Master, among flowers and agaves.
Periodically, the House also hosts temporary exhibitions devoted to the Master. While in summer, in the square in front of the house during the "week Pirandello's" take place the playwright of Agrigento.
